A Cozy Fall Evening at Koto

Join me at Koto Brewing Co. on October 18 for a relaxed evening of painting inspired by the fall. Come paint aspens with fluttery yellow leaves and moody lavender skies! They're the iconic tree of the autumn season in the painting world. I mean, aspens. White bark, stark black trunk bits, dancing leaves. Happy.

You'll create your own finished 8×10 painting on canvas. I'll guide you step by step through the process as we learn real painting techniques, play with color and texture, and use different brushstrokes to bring our autumn scene to life.

No painting experience necessary! Haven't picked up a paintbrush since elementary school? Fantastic, it's time. Every canvas comes with a lightly sketched outline to help you get started, because all that white space can be scary. You can follow the outline as closely as you like or go rogue and ignore the lines. We're outside-the-lines-friendly kind of people around here. Want to experiment with colors, add your own details, or make the painting entirely your own? Go for it! I can help.

And don't worry, this isn't the kind of art class where the teacher tells you you're doing it wrong. There are lots of ways to make a compelling painting, and I'll be there to help you along the way. My goal is for everyone to have fun, learn something new, and leave with a painting they're proud to take home and hang on the wall.

About the Artist

I'm Monica D'Angelo, a professional landscape painter based in Twin Falls. My work uses luminous color to explore memory, landscape and the quiet steadiness of belonging. My paintings are featured publicly in the Twin Falls Downtown Commons and are held in private collections across the country.

These paint nights come from the same love of landscapes, color, texture, and lots of paint that you'll find in my studio work. But they also come from a love of painting with other people. I love those little moments when someone surprises themselves with what they've made. When they find just the right color, or make a brushstroke that suddenly pushes the hills into the distance. When a few bright highlights make their tree start to dance. I love when someone is fussing over one little detail and the person next to them says, "Are you kidding? Look at those flowers!" Then, there are the finished paintings. Everyone admiring each other's work, taking photos, showing off their paintings, and sending pictures to people who couldn't be there. That's the best.
