This series is inspired by the strange, fleeting feeling of autumn. We come to the season with so many memories and expectations already attached to it. We are noticing it, remembering it, imagining it, and remaking it in our minds. Autumn can feel remembered even while we are still living in it. We try to reclaim it before it's even gone. The crisp smell in the air. The weather that is cool but not quite cold. The sunlight coming in at an angle. We are turning these sensations into memories while we are still standing inside them.
And then almost as soon as autumn arrives, it starts to go.
The Autumn Briefly. series is an attempt to stop for a moment and notice what is actually here, before it becomes what we remember.
Autumn Briefly, Field. is a small fall landscape painting that captures the colors of autumn in the American West. It shows the land as it slows and settles into the last of the season. The piece features earthy greys, muted olives, ochres and touches of pumpkin orange. This painting is a love note to this season and to noticing it while it is here.
