Present reflects the feeling of stepping far enough away from constant demands to recognize which things are truly urgent and which only perform urgency. Tasks accumulate, attention gets pulled in every direction, yet the canyon and river continue at an entirely different scale of time.
Light slowly moves across the water, grasses, and stone, illuminating certain surfaces for a moment before moving on. The geologic forms remain while the river continues through them, unconcerned with the smaller rhythms layered over daily life.
There is room here to think more clearly, to become present again, and to sit for a while beside something older and less hurried than ourselves.
