Flight
Flight focuses on skyscapes shaped by atmosphere, light, movement, and space. The inspiration behind the series is the quiet magic of watching birds move across the sky, silhouetted against shifting light. When we pause long enough to truly see them, something inside us, too, is pulled into openness, air, and possibility. Capturing that feeling is the intent of this series.
The work uses layered paint surfaces, heightened color, gold leaf, and shifting perspective to explore these ideas. Gold leaf appears throughout the paintings as small moments of light and hope within larger spaces of atmosphere and movement. Many of the surfaces are built through extensive underlying paint layers, allowing texture, depth and traces of earlier history to remain visible within the work.
These paintings move away from the constraints of land and toward open air and luminous space. These paintings are intended as spaces for contemplation, reflection, and possibility.
